Ruth, who set up her first home in 1961, agrees: “The early 60s was the teak era. It probably started even earlier, because I brought a chair and a book shelf to our new home, both in teak. What we needed next was a comfortable chair and a coffee table matching the furniture we already had. The table had to be teak, and we made sure the corners were rounded and safe for small children. We ended up with a read rocking chair, also with material from Sellgren, and the armrests were made of siam teak. Solid teak was something entirely different than all the teak veneer furniture we saw everywhere back then.”
